First Lung Cancer Workshop Organized in Sulaymaniyah

On January 25, 2024, the First Lung Cancer Workshop was held in Sulaymaniyah, with the attendance of the Director of Health and Governor of Sulaymaniyah, the Kalar Health Directorate, and dozens of specialist doctors in the field and other related disciplines.

During this workshop, discussions focused on primary strategies for preventing the onset of the disease, including the role of media, government, and relevant stakeholders in addressing tobacco and cigarette use, which are dominant causes of lung cancer. Subsequently, the methodology for diagnosing the disease in its earliest stages was discussed. For this purpose, CT scan equipment was presented as a method for early detection of the disease with the aim of treating the condition and achieving better outcomes.

On the same topic, a cost comparison was made between early screening expenses versus treatment costs for the condition, which showed a significant difference, with early screening resulting in substantial cost savings for both patients and the Ministry of Health.

It is worth noting that various diagnostic methods for the disease were discussed. Similarly, different treatment approaches for lung cancer were addressed. Additionally, discussions covered how to improve a patient's quality of life and reduce the pain and discomfort they experience. Finally, Dr. Aram Baram, who served as the event coordinator, concluded the event by stating: "All of this, at the end of the day, should serve our patients in the best possible way. As we know, our goal is to provide the best for our patients."
